A string trimmer is an ideal cordless hand tool for gardening. A typical small home garden doesn't need much more than 15 or 20 minutes of run time to effectively get all trimming duties done. For a bigger operation needing multiple gardens to be done, you'll need battery capacity that can run for several hours. If you swap a few batteries on a charger with an inverter it is doable. Keeping ten or more batteries on board to get through the day might not be, so calculate your requirements carefully to invest wisely.
